Distortion Issue on Record Enable

This seems to be a common issue with Pro Tools of all versions with not many resolutions on the forum. I have occasionally had an issue of an ugly distortion appearing when I record enable a track. Up until this week it would be solved by exiting Pro Tools and rebooting the PC. This is no longer the case.

For the record I have a Digi003 Rack + and a Focusrite Octopre MKII.

I am running 10.3.10 now after upgrading from 10.3.9 to attempt to fix the issue. I will post the Sandra Report after this explanation.

The distortion appears with a few minutes of hitting record enable. I have tried the following to fix the issue.

1. Changing the clock setting from Internal to external. I have set the clock to the Octopre but the distortion still appears. Changing the clock does stop the distortion for a few minutes.

2. I have changed sample rates. Same result. Fixed for a few minutes then distortion returns.

3. I have changed the firewire card drivers to the legacy option. No change.

4. I have changed the firewire cable. No Change.

5. I changed the cable to the second Firewire port on the rack plus. No Change.

6. I have defragmented both hard drives. No change.

7. I upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.3.10. No change.

8. I installed the latest Digi003 driver form the AVID website. No change.

9. I disabled the network card and rebooted the computer. No change.

10. I installed the latest Nvidia driver when I installed the video card about 6 months ago. I have not changed it since.

11. I disconnected and reconnected all the cables to the Digi003 interface. No change.

12. I started a new session with no plugins. No change.

13. I changed guitar cables. It's mainly guitar I've been trying to record.
